Developed by practicing teachers, Literary Companion was originally launched in 2004 solely as a Web-based learning tool designed to enhance students' understanding of classic literature. Since then, through a combination of careful testing and user demand, it has evolved steadily.

Today, Literary Companion is a suite of sophisticated online tools -- the Student Edition, plus the Teacher, School and District Editions -- seamlessly linking learning, instruction, and assessment. The result is students' active engagement with literary texts -- and a full range of formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and drive decision-making.
